How to find your fridge filter part number in 2 minutes

Compatible water filter for Samsung DA29-00003G fridge filter

Fridge filters look alike but they are not interchangeable. A filter that is a few millimetres out, or has a different locking tab, will either not fit or will leak. The good news is that you only need one thing to order the right one: the part number. It is almost always in one of three places.

1. On the filter itself

Start here, because it is the quickest. Turn off the water to the fridge if your model has an isolation valve, then take the old filter out. Most twist a quarter turn anticlockwise, and some push in and release with a button.

Look along the body of the filter for a printed label. The part number is usually the longest code on it, and it often starts with letters. Samsung filters, for example, usually start with DA29.

If the label has faded, try photographing it with your phone and zooming in. That often picks out print you cannot read by eye.

2. Inside the fridge

No luck on the filter? Open the fridge and look for the rating plate. It is a sticker, normally on an inside wall near the salad drawers, or on the door frame. It gives you the model number of the fridge, which is different from the filter’s part number but just as useful, because each model takes a known filter.

You will often see two similar codes on the plate. You want the one labelled Model or Model No, not the serial number.

3. In the paperwork

The user manual lists the filter in its parts or maintenance section. If you have lost the manual, the manufacturer’s website usually has a PDF copy that you can find by searching for the model number from the rating plate.

Your last order is worth checking too. If you bought a filter online before, the part number will be in the order confirmation email.

What to do once you have the number

Type the number into the search box at the top of this site, or browse our fridge filters. You will usually see two kinds of filter:

  • Original filters, made by or for the fridge manufacturer.
  • Compatible filters, made by a third party to fit the same fridge.

Both fit, so the choice comes down to price and preference. Check the listing names your part number or fridge model before you order.

Still stuck?

Take a photo of the old filter and the rating plate, then give us a call on 0121 557 5532. We can usually identify it from that.
